Your Life Your Choice is a way you can use your funding and have the greatest level of choice in the way your support works for you. If you already receive funding from the Dept Communities Disability then talk with someone from the department about whether you are able to direct your own support through Your Life Your Choice. If the answer is yes! Then you can start looking at the services that can assist you.
A list of these services is on the following site http://www.communities.qld.gov.au/disability/key-projects/your-life-your-choice/your-life-your-choice-host-providers
It is good to talk to as many Host Providers as you can to get an idea of which service will suit you best.
If you want you can direct everything and I Can Direct we will only assist with administration and reporting to DOCDS.
You may want assistance with making the plan, or finding services or getting equipment. This may change as life changes so if you were unwell and not able to direct your own arrangement for a while I Can Direct could assist you or could assist you to find a service to help while you were not able to do it.
The beauty of self directed support is nothing needs to stay the same forever. You have choices at all times in all matters of your life.
If you are interested in talking to someone then please contact Nigel Webb.
What does this mean for me?
Self Directed Support can feel like it is too much for us and too hard to be responsible for our support arrangements. I Can Direct can help you get started on being in charge of your own life and doing things the way you need them to be done.
As NDIS moves closer we will all need to have some idea about how we can make our support work for us in the future so now is the best time to start.
Self direction means you have greater choices and greater flexibility. You are not locked in to one service or one way of things being done. The more you direct the more your money can potentially work for you.
